Gaby Moreno launches “El Reto de Gaby”: An initiative that seeks to transform the future of Guatemalan children
In addition to being recognized for her career as a singer, songwriter and producer, Gaby Moreno has stood out for its commitment to Guatemalan children, collaborating in several projects of the United Nations Children’s Fund, —UNICEF— as National Goodwill Ambassador.
At the end of September, a few days before Children’s Day was celebrated in Guatemala, the Guatemalan artist and Unicef launched the campaign «Gaby’s Challenge»which seeks to provide access to quality educational materials to boys and girls in vulnerable situations.
What does “Gaby’s Challenge” consist of?
“Gaby’s Challenge” has the goal of delivering 300 educational kits to various schools in the country. Each kit, called “School in a Box,” contains basic materials for one teacher and 40 students, enough to cover three months of classes. Among the supplies included are notebooks, pencils, books and other teaching resources essential for children’s educational development.
This effort is important so that more children can access education. According to Unicef data, in 2023 approximately 2.7 million Guatemalan girls, boys and adolescents between 0 and 18 years old were not part of the educational system. Of this total, 1.8 million were children between 0 and 4 years old who did not receive initial education, and more than 100,000 did not access pre-primary education.
During the launch of the campaign on September 27, Gaby Moreno invited more people to join the initiative: «Today I launch this challenge to all Guatemalans so that together we can make a difference. Each educational kit that we deliver is a light of hope so that Guatemalan children have a better future,” the artist declared in a press release.
How can I join the challenge?
Anyone interested can contribute to “Gaby’s Challenge” by making donations for the acquisition of more educational kits. Donations can be made through the campaign’s official website, or by calling the number +502 2316-5738. Each contribution is one more step to transform the lives of hundreds of Guatemalan boys and girls, providing them with the necessary tools for their education.
