Tripoli,

Muammar al-Gaddafi was Libya’s president from 1969 to 2011. He was captured alive by insurgents on October 20, 2011 and shot dead immediately. The current president is Mohammed al-Menibi.

In this case, the first round of elections will take place next month on January 24, and the second round will take place on January 24.

There are 60 candidates vying for the presidency. It is noteworthy that only female rights activist Lilaben Khalifa (age 46) is a female candidate.

Gaddafi’s son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, who was killed to run in the election, filed his candidacy on the 14th. But the warrant issued by the International Criminal Court against him in the war crimes case is pending. Announcing that he was competing and landing on the field caused great controversy there. Because of this he has been barred from running in the presidential election. His candidacy was rejected by the country’s election commission.

The candidature of Kalpa Habdar, who is considered to be a similarly strong leader there, has also been rejected. His candidacy has also been rejected as he faces lawsuits in US courts. It is noteworthy that it was the Libyan military lawyers who asked the Election Commission to reject the two candidates.
