The famous Azerbaijani theater and film actor, People’s Artist Haji Ismailov celebrates his anniversary today. The actor turned 80 years old, Day.Az reports.
Haji Ismailov was born in Baku, studied at secondary school No. 190, where he also attended a drama club led by Tofig Ismailov.
In 1963-1967 he studied at the Faculty of Drama and Film of the Azerbaijan State Theater Institute named after Mirzag Aliyev (now the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts).
After graduating from the institute, he received an invitation to the troupe of the newly created Sumgayit State Drama Theater and first appeared on stage on September 2, 1968 as part of the youth troupe.
In this theater he played the role of the dervish Mastalishah in the comedy “Monsieur Jordan and the Dervish Mastalishah”, later – Jeffy in the production of “The Strange Mrs. Savage” based on the work of John Patrick, Mamedali Bey in the play “Seville” by Jafar Jabbarli.
Since February 1970, Haji Ismailov has been serving at the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theater, where he embodied bright, memorable roles in iconic and popular performances.
The first role at the Azerbaijanfilm film studio for Haji Ismayilov was the image in the film “Birthday” of an outstanding representative of Azerbaijani cinema, People’s Artist, laureate of the State Prizes of Azerbaijan and the USSR, holder of the Order of Shohrat, Rasim Ojagov. For this role, Haji Ismailov was awarded the State Prize of Azerbaijan (1980).
The actor starred in such famous films as “The Last Pass”, “My Wife, My Children”, “Before a Closed Door”, “The Groom was Stole”, “Another Life”, “Scoundrel”, “Air Temple”, “Gazalkhan”, “Scream”, “Oh Istanbul, Istanbul!” and others.
Today, the People’s Artist continues his acting career in his native theater, and he is also the acting chairman of the Union of Theater Workers of Azerbaijan.
