Sam Baumuller‘s Debut Dominance Fuels Gaels’ Strong Start

The Saint Mary’s men’s golf team earned a top-five finish at the 2025 Island Resort Intercollegiate, thanks in large part to a stellar debut from Sam Baumuller.

  • The Saint Mary’s men’s golf team finished fifth at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
  • Sam Baumuller led the Gaels with an impressive 11-under-par performance.
  • Aidan Lee also contributed significantly with a 7-under-par total.
  • The team’s strong second round performance was crucial to their top-five standing.

Did Sam Baumuller’s remarkable debut secure a strong opening for the Saint Mary’s golf team? Baumuller, who redshirted his first collegiate season, wasted no time making an impact in his debut. He carded an 11-under-par score over three rounds, leading the Gaels and tying for 8th place overall. His performance included ten birdies and an eagle across the first two rounds, highlighted by a 7-under 65 in the second round, which moved Saint Mary’s to third place.

Senior Aidan Lee also posted a strong showing for the Gaels, finishing at 7-under-par. Lee maintained an under-par score in each of his three rounds. He shot a 4-under 68 on Sunday, featuring six birdies and closing the round with back-to-back birdies.

In the final round on Monday, the Gaels were the only team within the top five to finish under par, with a two-under team score. This effort, bolstered by three birdies from Inigo Izuzquiza in his SMC debut after transferring from UNLV, helped secure their fifth-place finish.
