GAIOLE IN CHIANTI – The first giant bench of the Chianti Classico (Big Bench), overlooking the thirteenth-century castle and the vineyards of Meleto. the initiative of the BioViticola Toscana also on the occasion of the opening of Parco delle Api, the educational oasis inaugurated by the winery to promote the repopulation of an insect that represents life. And precisely on the occasion of World Bee Day. The park has one and a half hectares of trees and flowers and is part of the project for the protection and enhancement of the territory. The color chosen for the “Meleto green” bench the same reported on the Chianti Classico Riserva label and on the walls of the Map room, symbol of the Castle, where you can admire the fresco of the historic area of ​​Chianti Classico, which depicts the territories of Castello di Meleto, crossed by the Clante river which, according to one of the most accredited theories, gave the name to the denomination. We are happy to bring this project also to our hills – says Michele Contartese, general manager of Castello di Meleto -. The Big Bench Community Project has, like us, the objective of protecting and celebrating the community and the spaces in which we live and to which we owe a lot. a tribute to the beauty of the landscape and offer our guests a moment of childish enthusiasm, encounter and gratitude. The Big Bench Community Project is a non-profit initiative promoted by American designer Chris Bangle together with his wife Catherine: born in Piedmont with the aim of combining the creativity of the team of designers with the artisan excellence of the territory, supporting local communities, tourism and the enhancement of the landscape. In the bee park there will be about 30 species of flowering trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants: Judas trees, lime trees, rosemary, helichrysum, borage, sainfoin, gorse etc …

The trees will be home to bee families (40 hives for about 3 million bees housed): the hives will in fact be placed under the foliage, so that the insects can live in an environment that is as natural as possible. It will also be possible to adopt a family of bees and receive the honey produced in return.
