We expect a lot from Samsung’s Galaxy A series for 2023. These devices are important to the South Korean manufacturer because they make up a large portion of annual smartphone shipments. In recent weeks, there have been more and more rumors about these devices as their launch date is getting closer.
Now, the almost complete technical specifications of both the A34 and A54 have been leaked, providing a clear understanding of their capabilities. These two devices are tasked with continuing the legacy of the previous Galaxy A33 and A53, which had success in the mid-range market last year. However, the A53 5G fails to live up to expectations when compared to its predecessor, the A52s 5G, which is still considered one of the more well-balanced mid-range smartphones.

Galaxy A54 and A34 design
Samsung is refreshing its design philosophy with the Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A54, adopting the new design language that was official with the high-end Galaxy S23 series. The main design difference compared to their predecessors is the lack of a protruding island housing the camera module. Instead, the camera sensors will now be individually visible.
Samsung Galaxy A54 will have a drop notch which will house the front camera, while the Galaxy A34 will have a circular hole. Both devices will feature a Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and Full HD + resolution (1080 x 2340 pixels), spread across a 6.4-inch diagonal for the Galaxy A54 and a 6.6-inch diagonal for the Galaxy A34.
It’s worth noting that compared to the top-of-the-line models, the bezels around the screens of these mid-range devices may be slightly thicker. In addition, both smartphones will support IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.
Galaxy A54 and A34 cameras
Reports indicate that upcoming smartphones will feature a triple camera setup, which is an improvement over previous models that had an attached depth-of-field sensor, which is now deemed unnecessary. The Samsung Galaxy A34 is expected to have the same camera setup as its predecessor, with a 48MP (optical stabilized) wide-angle sensor, an 8MP wide-angle sensor, and a 5MP macro sensor. . At the front, the smartphone will have a 13MP camera housed in a small hole.
However, the Samsung Galaxy A54 is rumored to have a different camera setup compared to its predecessor. The main sensor is expected to be 50MP, replacing the 64MP sensor found on the previous model. The new main sensor will have better quality thanks to PDAF (phase detection autofocus) and OIS (optical image stabilization). The smartphone will retain the 12MP ultra-wide angle sensors and the 5MP macro sensors to support the main sensor. Galaxy A54 and A34 processors
The main difference between the two smartphones is the processing unit that powered both models last year, the Exynos 1280. This year, the Samsung Galaxy A54 is set to focus on the upgraded version of the mid-range SoC produced in-house, the Exynos 1380. This new solution is built using 5nm production process, which makes it more efficient and powerful than its predecessor. Exynos 1380 features an octa-core CPU with 4 cores running at 2.4GHz for power and 4 cores running at 2GHz for efficiency, and Mali G68 GPU from ARM. The CPU and GPU will increase the performance of the device by about 30% in multi-core tasks compared to the previous generation.
In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy A34 runs a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 (MT6877V), 6nm SoC with an octa-core CPU and the same Mali G68 GPU as the Exynos 1380.
Also, both devices will have a comprehensive set of connectivity options. Including support for 5G networks, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. However, it seems that only the Galaxy A54 will have Wi-Fi 6 support.
Both smartphones will have similar memory and storage options. Including 6 or 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage, users can expand it using a microSD card. Both will also have a 5,000mAh battery with a 25W fast charging cable and will run on Android 13 One UI 5.0 operating system.

Galaxy A54 and A34 launch date
Rumors have been swirling about upcoming mid-range smartphones from Samsung and it looks like their launch is imminent. The company has historically released similar models around this time of year. Like the Galaxy A33 and A53 which were official on March 17, 2022. This year, the Galaxy S23 was released a week earlier than the previous year’s model. Which leads to speculations that the Galaxy A34 and A54 may also be official in early March 2023.
