As expected, Samsung presented its smart Galaxy Ring at the “Unpacked” event in Paris. All information on functions and price.
Electronics manufacturer Samsung believes that users’ health awareness has increased noticeably after Corona. It is therefore high time to meet the demand in the form of a smart ring. Products that record important body data have been around for several years. At the “Unpacked” event in Paris, Samsung has now also presented a ring for those who find a watch too bulky.
After all, the Galaxy Ring is seven millimeters wide and, with a width of 2.6 millimeters, is one of the thinnest on the market – all while weighing between 2.3 and 3 grams, depending on the ring size. The battery life is up to seven days after the ring has been fully charged for around 80 minutes in the included case.
Due to the technology and the desire to keep the weight as low as possible, the device is made largely of plastic. The surface of the Galaxy Ring has a titanium alloy in black, silver or gold. In addition, it has IP68 certification, which makes it dustproof and waterproof up to 10 ATM or 100 meters deep.
The ordering process for the Galaxy Ring is somewhat unusual, but makes sense. Interested parties are initially sent a package with templates in nine different sizes between 50 and 70 millimeters. After trying the ring on, the ring can then be ordered in the desired size. Cost at launch: 449 euros.
Technically, the Galaxy Ring can measure the health data of its wearer and display it on the smartphone – or record it if the cell phone or watch should stay at home. With the help of the artificial intelligence “Galaxy AI”, it also gives wellness tips and warns, for example, of deviations in heart rate, reminds you of too long a period of inactivity and can also predict a woman’s cycle based on body temperature.
Anyone who provides additional data, such as individual meals, to the associated Samsung Health app also receives personalized suggestions and analyses based on their personal lifestyle. This allows users to specifically stop bad habits – such as eating too late or not getting enough sleep – and thereby improve their health.
The ring also has gesture control with the ring finger and thumb. By double tapping, you can take a photo with the camera or deactivate the alarm without having to search for your phone in the dark. And if the Galaxy Ring gets lost, you can find it with your smartphone using the “Find My Ring” function.
