Galician rural areas will have 20 million euros to have ultra-fast internet connection

The third call for the Government’s Nico-Broadband Program will allow an improvement of services to almost 9,500 families and companies in Galicia

The Government delegate in Galicia, Pedro Blanco, has announced the investment of €19.7 million in the third call for the Single-Broadband Program, managed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation through the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructure, for the fiber extension to rural areas of the community.

This phase of the project will allow the advent of ultra-fast digital connectivity, bringing Internet connection via fiber optics to 9,249 families and businesses in rural areasof the community. This call was opened last Monday and will remain open until next September 15. Until that date, telecommunications companies may submit their proposals.

The greater investment will be carried out in the province of Pontevedra, with 7.7 million euros to benefit 3,621 users; followed by A Corua, with 4.6 for 2,206 households and companies; in Lugo another 4.6 will be invested for 2,319 users; and in Ourense 2.8 million for 1,283 homes and businesses

The central government subsidizes 80% of the cost of the projects, and the companies contribute the remainder up to the entire cost of these actions. The projects must be completed before December 31, 2025.

In totalhe Nico-Broadband Program represents an investment of €90.9 million to improve network connection services in 236,154 Galician households and companies.
