Galp is preparing to invest 486 million euros by the end of 2025 in the Sines refinery. Portuguese energy has two fronts: green hydrogen and road and aviation biofuels. 128 direct jobs will be created to operate these units, with over a thousand workers for the construction phase. This investment marks the new trajectory of the oil company towards decarbonisation.
The largest share of the investment (269 million euros) is earmarked for the HVO@Galp project, which provides for the construction of a “biofuel production unit (biojet and biogasoil, fundamentally), for use in road transport and aviation”.
This project will allow Galp to “gradually replace traditional gas oil and aviation kerosene (jet) of fossil origin with fuels of sustainable origin based on used cooking oils and oily residues from animals and plants”.
