Galtier affair: the Nice prosecutor’s office will not appeal, the release of the ex-PSG coach is definitive

There will be no second trial for Christophe Galtier. The former coach of OGC Nice and PSG, current coach of Al-Duhail in Qatar, was acquitted by the Nice criminal court on December 21 of charges of discrimination and harassment. The prosecution, which had nevertheless requested a one-year suspended prison sentence and a fine of 45,000 euros for the coach, decided not to appeal this release.

Christophe Galtier is therefore definitively cleared in this affair. It was the public prosecutor of Nice, Damien Martinelli, who announced his decision not to appeal to Nice morning, indicated the daily this Friday. The prosecution had until December 31 to make its decision known.

In this case, Christophe Galtier was prosecuted on the basis of an email from the former general director of OGC Nice Julien Fournier, notably accusing the French technician of discrimination against players celebrating Ramadan and of racist remarks, as well as of harassment. “Neither of the two offenses is serious,” the criminal court clarified in its judgment.

This episode, which had a major impact on the former PSG coach and his entourage, notably forcing him to live under police protection, will perhaps nevertheless have other legal consequences. Christophe Galtier’s lawyers had in fact suggested that they could take legal action against the two journalists who relayed the accusations appearing in Julien Fournier’s email.
