Gambia requests support from Angola for actions at the AU Peace and Security Council

News from Angola – The Republic of The Gambia requested Angola’s support for the actions it intends to develop during its presidency of the Peace and Security Council (CPS) of the African Union (AU), in December this year.

According to a note from the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia, received today by the NA, the matter was discussed on Monday, the sixth, during a meeting between the Angolan ambassador to that country and the permanent representative to the AU, Miguel César Domingos Bembe, and the Gambian counterpart, Jainaba Jagne.

According to the information, both diplomats recognized the need for alignment of their respective States in relation to the main challenges of that African organization and also analyzed the state of cooperation, increased with the signing, in the Ethiopian capital, on September 3, 2021, of a joint statement on the establishment of relations between the two countries.

At the time, the statement highlights, Gambia expressed the desire to benefit from Angola’s vast experience in various sectors of the economy, with emphasis on the oil and gas area.

At the end of the meeting, Jainaba Jagne praised the efforts of the President of the Republic João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, for his efforts in seeking negotiated solutions to end armed conflicts in various regions of the African continent.

Under the auspices of The Gambia, the continental organization’s CPS is expected to hold on the 4th and 5th of December this year, in Banjul, a ministerial retreat called “African Platform for Children Affected by Armed Conflict” and the country is invited to participate.
