Chennai: The Chennai High Court has dismissed a petition filed by IPS officer Sampath Kumar seeking dismissal of a case filed by cricketer Dhoni seeking Rs 100 crore in damages in a gambling case.

IPS officer Sampath Kumar, who is probing IPL gambling, said in a statement that former Indian cricket captain Dhoni was involved in gambling. On that basis, Zee TV, its editor, IPS, has demanded Rs 100 crore in damages for allegedly defaming Zee TV. Dhoni had filed a case against Officer Sampath Kumar in the Chennai High Court in 2014.

Former IPS officer Sampath Kumar had filed a petition seeking dismissal of Dhoni’s case. Judge N. Seshasai, who heard the case today, dismissed Sampath Kumar’s petition, saying that it would take many more years for the main case to come to an end if the petition is accepted, as the witness trial is currently underway.

The judge also directed Sampath Kumar to face further witness trial. The case against Dhoni will come up for hearing on December 15.
