Today is the last day of Gamescom. The trade and public fair is primarily about video and computer games. The number of visitors this year was even greater than last year.

Significantly more people came to the world’s largest computer game and video game trade fair Gamescom this year than in 2022. Around 320,000 visitors were counted, the organizers announced at the end of the five-day event. In the previous year it was 265,000.
The previous high was reached in 2019 with 373,000, followed by a corona-related break in attendance, during which Gamescom only took place online.
Exhibitors included providers such as Nintendo, Xbox, Tencent and Ubisoft as well as the streaming services Netflix, Amazon Prime and Crunchyroll.
The games industry has been growing for years, but German developers only play a minor role. The industry is said to have great potential in times of digitization, especially since its developments could also provide impetus in other areas of the economy, such as with artificial intelligence (AI) and virtual realities (VR).
The federal government has been supporting the games industry with a funding program for several years. In view of the need to save, the Federal Ministry of Economics wants to provide less money in 2024 than came from the federal government in 2023, which led to criticism from the industry: German companies fear disadvantages in international competition.
