Four Men Sentenced to Prison for Explosions in Stockholm

On Christmas Day last year, a gang leader was shot to death in western Stockholm, sparking a wave of violence that plagued the area throughout the year. Now, four young men have been sentenced to prison in Södertörn District Court for three explosions that took place within the span of a few days, between December 27, 2022, and January 2 of this year.

The first explosion occurred in a stairwell in Dalen in southern Stockholm, at the address where a suspected gang criminal linked to the murder of the artist Einár lives. Two of the men have been sentenced for their involvement in this explosion. The blast, which used a hand grenade and nails, caused extensive damage to the stairwell, including damage to the entrance door and staircase by shrapnel.

The next explosion occurred in Bandhagen four days later, where a bomb was placed in a stairwell. For this incident, one of the men has been sentenced for aiding and abetting public destruction.

The third explosion took place in Grimsta in western Stockholm, also in a stairwell where a person with ties to gang crime was located. A 26-year-old man has been sentenced for this explosion.

In addition to prison terms ranging from 1 to 6.5 years, the men are also required to pay damages in several cases. A woman in her 40s who, according to the prosecutor, was involved in the preparations for the explosion in Bandhagen, has been acquitted in court.

The man in his 20s, who was charged with incitement in all three cases, has been acquitted of all seven charges in the district court. These sentences mark a significant step in addressing the spiral of violence that has plagued the Stockholm area, particularly in connection to gang-related activities.
