Quito More than 50 people have been killed in clashes between mafias at Ecuador ‘s largest prison. Clashes between mafias are not a big deal in Ecuador. But this is the first time so many people have been killed in a recent mafia attack.
The incident took place in a prison in the coastal city of Guayaquil in Ecuador. An hour-long shooting and explosion took place inside the jail on Saturday night.

Such mafia-sponsored attacks are common in Ecuadorian prisons. More than 300 inmates have been killed this year alone.

The Ecuadorian president has declared a state of emergency following the incident. President Guillermo Lasso has also called on neighboring countries to help maintain law and order in the country.

In September, a prison in Ecuador became the scene of the biggest mafia attack in the country’s shocking history. The conflict was brought under control when the army arrived.
