Gangnam-gu opens ‘Mindfulness health lectures by life cycle’ taught by experts to improve mental health of residents

Gangnam-gu is holding a special lecture on mindfulness for each life cycle from experts. Gangnam-gu (City Mayor Seong-myeong Cho), a city where dreams gather and envision the future, will hold mindfulness health classes for each life cycle four times from May to October.

This lecture is a relay special lecture planned as a new project by the Gangnam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center. Experts in each field were invited to provide information on mental health issues for each age group, including children, adolescence, adolescence, middle-aged, and old age.

▲On May 28th, from 10:00 to 12:00, at the Daechi 4-dong Cultural Center, Director Byeong-eun Ahn of the Suwon Suicide Prevention Center will give a lecture on the topic of ‘Talk about death with your child.’ It points out the recently increasing problem of suicide and self-harm among children and adolescents and ways to deal with it. ▲On June 11th, from 14:00 to 16:00, a lecture on ‘Counselling Center for Highly Sensitive People’ for middle-aged and older people will be held at the Dogok 2-dong Cultural Center. Professor Jeon Hong-jin of Samsung Seoul Hospital tells us about controlling depression and irritability in middle-aged and older people.

▲On September 5th, from 10:00 to 12:00, a lecture will be given to young people at the Nonhyeon 2-dong Cultural Complex. Shin Dong-geun, director of Mamara Psychiatry Department, explains know-how for resolving psychological conflicts under the topic of ‘Understanding the psychological differences between men and women and how to communicate without stress.’ ▲On October 17th, from 10:00 to 12:00, there will be a lecture by Park Seong-deok, director of Yeonji Family and Marriage Research Institute, for middle-aged and elderly couples. Under the theme ‘You must have had a hard time’, we talk about family communication that saves lives.

Each course accepts 100 applicants on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents who wish to participate can apply by phone or using the QR code on the poster. In addition to the lectures, the center plans to operate a mental health experience and promotion booth and launch various campaigns.

Meanwhile, the Gangnam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center operates projects for mental health throughout the year, including ▲ customized group programs for each life cycle such as music therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and therapeutic recreation ▲ psychological testing and counseling ▲ support for mental illness treatment costs.

Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Seong-myeong said, “This is an opportunity to hear directly from a psychiatrist about the new conflicts faced by each age group and the resulting mental health problems,” adding, “As the importance and interest in mental health has recently grown, the function and role of the Mental Health Welfare Center “We will strengthen and support the improvement of mental health of residents.”
