Gangnam-gu is increasing the opening of elementary school playgrounds near homes. Gangnam-gu (district mayor Seong-myeong Cho), a city where dreams gather and envision the future, has cooperated with local schools to expand the Gangnam Open School, where residents can use school playgrounds on weekday evenings and weekends, from 6 last year to 14 this year.
Gangnam Open School is a project that opens school playground facilities so that residents in areas lacking parks or sports facilities can exercise near their homes, and the district provides incentives for schools to open. The district supports ▲strengthening school safety and repairing old facilities, ▲labor costs for dedicated personnel, ▲payment of public bills due to opening, ▲installation of CCTV and night lighting, etc., according to the conditions of each school. During the past year of operation, exercise equipment and benches were installed at the school and new sidewalk blocks were installed to improve user convenience.
The district particularly focused on opening elementary school playgrounds. There are more elementary schools within walking distance than middle and high schools, and they are distributed throughout residential areas. We believe that opening elementary schools within walking distance of residents will increase practical accessibility, and we plan to continue to work on opening elementary school playgrounds. Through this year’s contest, 8 final schools were selected based on ▲ places lacking local sports facility infrastructure such as parks ▲ schools that can be open at night on weekdays, and the number of elementary schools here increased significantly from 1 last year to 4 this year, for a total of 5. Operate.
The 14 Gangnam Open Schools are ▲Singu Elementary School, Sinsa Middle School, and Hakdong Elementary School in the Sinsa and Nonhyeon-dong areas ▲Apgujeong Middle and High School and Gyeonggi High School in the Apgujeong and Samseong areas ▲Dandaebu Middle and High School and Yeoksam Elementary School in the Daechi and Yeoksam-dong areas ▲Poi Elementary School in the Gaepo-dong area , Sudo Technical High School ▲Daemo Elementary School, Jungsan High School, and Sejong High School in the Irwon and Suseo-dong areas. The school will open the playground for the next two years. The usage hours are slightly different for each school, including after school dismissal on weekdays and on weekends (see table below). Residents can check the usage hours and then visit to walk, jog, or do light exercise.
Seong-myeong Cho, mayor of Gangnam-gu, said, “Open schools that share school infrastructure with local residents are a cooperative business model where both organizations win-win. “We ask you to use it,” he said.
