Gangnam-gu, Stress Free Zone Usage Rate Doubles Due to Exhibition Captivating Students

The utilization rate of the stress-free zone has doubled due to an exhibition that captivated students in Gangnam-gu. Gangnam-gu (Mayor Seongmyeong Cho), a city where dreams gather and a future is being drawn, has been operating an art playground in front of the academy called “After School Hideout,” an experiential exhibition for students in the Daechi-dong stress-free zone, and the utilization rate has doubled since last June.

The district signed an ESG business agreement with art exhibition company ‘Gallery O’ and has been hosting exhibitions based on students’ interests such as identity and relationships with friends since June. The first exhibition, ‘A Child with Many Secrets, an Age with Many Secrets’ by artist Shin Da-in, was an exhibition where teenagers could relieve stress by expressing their academic concerns or difficult emotions arising from relationships with friends in their own secret hideouts. Students who participated in the exhibition responded enthusiastically, leaving comments on the provided diaries and memos such as ‘I want to come with a friend’ and ‘There are so many great activities here! This hideout is really great’. During the exhibition period, the district changed the mobile QR check entry method to autonomous entry and placed entry cards outside. As a result, the usage rate doubled from around 40 people per booth (total of 5 booths) until May to around 80 people starting in June.

The second exhibition, ‘Temperament Exploration’ by artist Noh Hyun-ji (professor at Seoul National University), will be held from August 9. This exhibition allows students to discover their innate temperament using each picture cover created by the artist, and it is expected to attract the attention of both students forming their identity and parents curious about their children’s temperament, further increasing the utilization rate of the Stress Free Zone.

Meanwhile, according to a facility satisfaction survey conducted in April, 86.4% of users responded that they were ‘satisfied.’ When asked if they ‘intend to continue using the facility in the future,’ 87.7% answered ‘yes.’ The biggest reason for being satisfied with the facility was the availability of convenient facilities such as free heating and cooling facilities and cell phone charging. The next highest satisfaction level was the fact that it is a facility exclusively for youth. Over 70% of users said they ‘want to keep it as it is now for youth and parents only.’ Based on these responses, the district plans to continuously discover necessary services for youth who commute to Daechi-dong for school and improve the facilities.

Gangnam-gu District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong said, “We created a facility that was made into a resting space for students so that they can experience unique and fun cultural and artistic exhibitions and heal themselves,” and added, “We will operate the Stress Free Zone, which is now in its second year of operation, as a small resting place where students can communicate with each other.”
