Gangnam-gu won the ‘Minister of Health and Welfare Award’ in the local welfare project evaluation for two consecutive years. Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Seong-myeong Cho), a city where dreams gather and envision the future, was selected as an excellent local government in the field of providing on-site health and welfare services in the ‘2024 Regional Welfare Project Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and received a commendation from the Minister of Health and Welfare. With this award, Gangnam-gu was recognized for its performance as an excellent local government nationwide for two consecutive years following last year.
Every year, the Ministry of Health and Welfare conducts an evaluation of local welfare projects in 17 cities and provinces and 226 cities, counties and districts across the country to eliminate welfare blind spots and support the vulnerable class. Gangnam-gu received high praise for its multifaceted efforts, including establishing a customized welfare delivery system for residents, identifying at-risk households, and utilizing local resources through public-private cooperation.
The district is promoting various welfare projects under the vision of ‘Gangnam, a city of welfare and health where everyone can envision the future.’ This year, a contest for customized welfare and health projects reflecting the needs of residents in each village was introduced for the first time and received a positive response, and a safety monitoring service was operated in cooperation with postmen to prevent lonely deaths among middle-aged people, which has emerged as a new welfare blind spot. In addition, 125 safety supplies, including wearable cameras and case-type recorders, were placed in 22 neighborhood community centers to enhance the safety of public officials who must visit homes.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Seong-myeong said, “Our efforts to change the lives of residents for the better led to the award,” and added, “We will continue to cooperate with the local community to discover welfare blind spots and provide welfare services tailored to the needs of residents, so that everyone can envision the future.” “We will create Gangnam-gu, a city where welfare and health are compatible,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gangnam-gu received an ‘excellent overall integrity rating’ for two consecutive years in the 2024 public institution integrity evaluation hosted by the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
The integrity evaluation is conducted by comprehensively analyzing survey responses from citizens and employees with experience handling civil complaints, each organization’s efforts and performance in establishing an anti-corruption promotion system, and the status of corruption incidents. This year, evaluations were conducted on 718 public institutions nationwide.
In this evaluation, the district was selected as an excellent district, recording a 2nd grade in overall integrity. In particular, in the effort to promote integrity policy, it received 91.4 points, significantly exceeding the average of all organizations (83.5 points), receiving high praise for its high interest in integrity and intensive policy implementation.
This result follows the first grade received in the first evaluation since the launch of the 8th popular election last year, and an excellent grade for the second consecutive year. The district has proven that it maintains a high level of integrity through ▲spreading a culture of integrity through the initiative of the head of the institution and efforts to promote integrity policies ▲active and highly original policy implementation ▲differentiated improvement strategies in areas vulnerable to corruption.
This year, the district raised employees’ awareness of integrity by operating ‘Clean Wave’, an integrity campaign for all employees. ‘Integrity Gangnam Challenge! ‘Golden Bell’, ‘Meet integrity in Gangnam! By introducing unique integrity education such as ‘Live Class’, we spread a culture of integrity inside and outside of the public service. In addition, all employees, including the district mayor, worked together with the goal of creating a clean Gangnam by directly sharing and discussing focused tasks for improving areas vulnerable to corruption and participating in collecting opinions to create a Gangnam free of complaints.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Cho Seong-myeong said, “Achieving an excellent grade in comprehensive integrity for two consecutive years is an achievement achieved by the employees’ commitment to integrity and the residents’ high awareness of integrity.” He added, “We will continue to spread the culture of integrity inside and outside of the public office, and implement differentiated integrity policies to promote ‘residents’ awareness.” “We will create a ‘clean Gangnam’ with people,” he said.
