Mumbai : The Supreme Court has directed to change the name of the film Gangubhai Kathiawadi, which is set to release on February 25. The court issued the order after receiving several petitions seeking to block the release of the film. The court said the petition would be heard again tomorrow. Bhansali Productions’ lawyer Siddhartha Dave told the Supreme Court that the decision on the name change would be announced tomorrow.
Gangubhai Kathiyawadi is a film starring Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles. The film is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The movie will hit theaters on February 25. The release of the film has been postponed several times in the wake of Kovid’s illness. The film is based on the life of Gangubhai Kothewali, who started as a sex worker in Kamathipura and became an underworld leader.

Gangubhai Kothewali’s foster son Babu Raoji Shah is among those who have filed a petition seeking postponement of the film’s release. Alia Bhatt arrives as Gangubhai Kathiyavadi. The film was originally slated to release on July 30, 2021. It was later announced that the film would be released in January this year but was postponed again.

Gangubhai Kathiyavadi is a crime drama film. The film stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in the lead roles along with Vijay Ras, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa. Imran Hashmi will also make a guest appearance in the film. Gangubhai Kathiyavadi is the first Bollywood film starring Shantanu Maheshwari.
Gangubhai Kathiawadi was the owner of a famous brothel in Kamathipura, Red Street, Mumbai, decades ago. But this queen of Red Street was also a woman who worked for the rights and advancement of sex workers.

The film is based on the book Mafia Queens in Mumbai by S Hussain Syed and Jain Borges. The story of Gangubai Kathiyavadi is told in the chapter on the Matriarch of Kamathipura in that book.
According to the book, Gangubai Kathiyawadi, who had fled from Gujarat with her boyfriend, was sold by her boyfriend to a brothel. Ganguly Kathiawadi then became one of the highest paid sex workers in Kamathipura.
