Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Jin-tae presided over a video conference in Paris to check on ‘safety and livelihood’ during his overseas business trip. Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Jin-tae, who is in Paris for 6 nights and 8 days to cheer on the 21 Taegeuk Warriors of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and to engage in sports diplomacy, instructed that he focus on the safety and livelihood of the province’s residents.
The video conference was held at 9:00 a.m. Paris time (4:00 p.m. Korean time) on the 31st, and the meeting was attended by Governor Kim Jin-tae, the Director of the Disaster and Safety Office who is in charge of Stage 1 of the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, the Director of the Fire Administration Division, the Director of the Welfare Bureau, the Director of the Economic Bureau, and the Director of the Construction and Transportation Bureau.
Governor Kim Jin-tae said, “I receive reports from Paris every morning on the disaster situation and major livelihood issues, and I was informed that a heat wave warning has been issued from 10 a.m. Korean time today, and the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters has been activated to Emergency Level 1.” He instructed, “I ask that the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters be thoroughly activated, centered around Director Son Chang-hwan of the Disaster and Safety Office,” and “I will mobilize all available resources to continuously inspect heat wave damage reduction facilities, such as heat shelters and shade tents, so that they can maintain their functions, and I will actively promote the use of heat shelters to residents.”
Currently, as of 2:00 PM on the 31st (Korean time), heat wave warnings have been issued for 10 places in the province, including Chuncheon, Wonju, Gangneung, Donghae, Sokcho, Samcheok, Hongcheon, Hwacheon, Goseong, Yangyang, and northern and southern Gangwon-do mountainous regions, and heat wave advisories have been issued for 7 places, including Hoengseong, Yeongwol, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Cheorwon, Yanggu, Inje, and central Gangwon-do mountainous regions.
Governor Kim continued, “As we enter the peak summer vacation season and many tourists are visiting Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, we must focus more on safety and price management.” He added, “We must continuously check that safety facilities and safety rules are being properly maintained in summer water play areas, and as we have entered the period of vulnerable prices, we must pay special attention to price management in summer vacation spots.” He also asked, “Please focus on safety and people’s livelihoods as top priorities in each sector, including safety, economy, welfare, and agriculture.”
Meanwhile, Governor Kim Jin-tae is expanding the scope of sports exchange and cooperation by meeting with the Korea Sports Council, the Korea Swimming Federation, and others during his business trip to Paris, and will return home on August 2 after completing his last schedule.
