Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province held the 3rd National Budget Securing Strategy Meeting. The meeting was attended by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Jin-tae, Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Jeong Gwang-yeol, bureau chiefs, and central government support officers. In particular, the province judged that active response was necessary until the end of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’s deliberation in accordance with the government’s sound fiscal policy, and held this meeting to refine strategies for maximum efficiency in the remaining two weeks. At the meeting, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance’s response to key projects and deliberation trends were reported, and various opinions were added regardless of department, reinforcing the logic of key projects.

The major projects discussed include future industries such as ▲Establishment of a semiconductor k-material parts production base (KRW 1.7 billion), ▲Development of early diagnosis and prevention solutions for geriatric diseases (KRW 3 billion), ▲Establishment of an industrial environment promoting the use of digital health data (KRW 2.8 billion), as well as economic revitalization projects for closed mine areas (KRW 25 billion) and designation of employment crisis areas (KRW 2 billion), and SOC projects such as the Second Gyeongchun National Road (KRW 50 billion) and the Jecheon-Samcheok Expressway (KRW 23 billion).

Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Jeong Gwang-yeol emphasized the need for a logical approach that the project is necessary for the country and ordered a simple, core message to be created about the need to secure national funds.

Governor Kim Jin-tae said, “The government budget will be announced soon, and in line with the sound fiscal policy, the government budget size is expected to increase by about 3% year-on-year to around 680 trillion won. This is a decrease in the growth rate compared to previous years,” and added, “Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province is stepping on the accelerator toward becoming a global city of the future industry with the semiconductor joint research center and bio-specialized complex,” and “Once the government budget is announced, we plan to hold a meeting with provincial National Assembly members in September.” He also asked for “full cooperation with local National Assembly members to secure national funds that will be the driving force behind the global city of the future industry.”

Meanwhile, the government budget plan is expected to be finalized by the end of August, then submitted to the National Assembly on September 3 after deliberation at the State Council.
