At the regular meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CIS, held on April 12, 2024 in Minsk, the sports capitals of the Commonwealth of Independent States for the next two years were determined.
As Day.Az reports on Friday with reference to the official website of the CIS Executive Committee, in 2025 the city of Ganja (Republic of Azerbaijan) will receive the status of the Sports Capital of the Commonwealth, and in 2026 the city of Almaty (Republic of Kazakhstan) will become the sports center of the CIS.
It is expected that giving the status of the Sports Capital of the Commonwealth to the cities of Ganja and Almaty will brightly reveal their sports potential in the CIS, expand opportunities for introducing the population to physical education and sports, attracting additional resource provision, including for the infrastructural improvement of cities, and also create conditions for a new high-quality level of cooperation between the member states of the Commonwealth in the field of physical culture and sports, based on a rich and diverse palette of sports and humanitarian events.
