Former Defense Minister Benny Gantz backed Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi today (Friday) and wrote on his Twitter account: “Smotrich and Netanyahu, you are confused – it is the professional duty of the Chief of Staff to tell the truth and warn – even if it is not a guarantee to the ears of politicians.”
“The campaign of intimidation and silencing against the senior officials of the security establishment and the professional ranks will harm security, no less than the destructive splitting of powers in Judea and Samaria for political reasons,” added Gantz. “I call on all the senior officials of the system to continue to make their voices heard, in a stateful and professional manner. Netanyahu and Galant must back up the Chief of Staff and condemn the political attack on him immediately.”
Smotrich, as I recall, this morning harshly criticized the Chief of Staff and wrote: “If Kochavi wanted to understand and not just attack with populism in preparation for his entry into the political arena, he would have talked to me and understood that the goal is not to harm the IDF’s chain of command.”
