The chairman of the state camp, Benny Gantz, called on the public to participate in tonight’s demonstrations against the government, before he himself went to the demonstration in Tel Aviv.
“Good evening everyone. It’s true that it’s a little cold and maybe it will also rain. But this is our country,” Gantz said. “Let everyone take the Israeli flag in one hand, an umbrella in the other and come to protect democracy and the law in the State of Israel. This is important to us. We will meet in the square.”
Already at this time, thousands of people are in demonstrations in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, when the protests are supposed to officially begin at 8:00 p.m.
In Tel Aviv, the demonstration is held in the Bima Square and in Jerusalem in front of the President’s House. About 1,000 police officers are securing the marchers, when earlier this week the Commissioner warned against the possibility of disturbances.
The organizers of the demonstrations said: “Netanyahu’s plan for a coup d’état carried out by Levin is the complete abolition of Israeli democracy and its transformation into a Netanyahu dictatorship. The State of Israel was built for us, the citizens – not as a city of refuge for those accused of crimes. If for one second Netanyahu and the poison machine think that their incitement and lies will be useful this time – they are wrong. This coming Saturday, the people will rise to their feet and stop the coup d’état.’
