CEOE President, Antonio Garamendihas modified his employment relationship with the employer when passing from self-employed to salaried with a senior management contract paid with a salary close to 400,000 euros gross a year, as published this Thursday by El País.

The newspaper reports that Garamendi had a commercial contract during his first term, that after being re-elected in November for a second term, he brought before the board of directors the proposal to modify his contractual relationship and that after the change his remuneration is 9% higher to that of four years earlier.

In a statement, the employers have defended that both Garamendi’s current remuneration and his employment relationship with the confederation have been unanimously approved within the Board of Directors.

The note stresses that CEOE is a independent body whose statutes establish that it is up to the board of directors to decide whether or not the president of the organization receives remuneration and in what amount.

“CEOE requests respect for the decisions that are adopted within the organization’s governing bodies,” adds the employer’s statement.
