Garbage piles up on the streets in developing countries when sanitation workers go on strike demanding higher wages.

But the current economic crisis has created the same problem in Britain, which is among the developed countries

In the Edinburgh region of Scotland, which is a part of the United Kingdom, it is reported that garbage has been piled up like a mountain in the streets of the region as the sanitation workers have been on strike since last Thursday to demand a salary increase.

Also, there are closed garbage recycling stations.

The workers have engaged in the said protest after the regional government organization Khosla rejected the 3.5 percent salary offered to the said workers. They have announced to extend the strike for another 9 days.

Due to the comedy festival taking place in Edinburgh from the last 5th to the upcoming 29th, the number of tourists visiting the region has increased.

In such a situation, it is reported that the strike of refinery workers has worsened the situation.

In this case, the garbage containers on the streets in that region are overflowing with food packages, plastic bottles and other items and the garbage has been piled up like a mountain, so it has been warned that the rats will proliferate and spread infectious diseases. Edinburgh Regional Council President Cammy Day said residents and businesses in the area were facing serious disruption due to the rubbish.

Scotland First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has previously called on council leaders to increase the pay of regional council workers by 5 per cent to avoid disruption to regional government services.
