The former player and current manager Jorge Garbajosa has resigned this Wednesday from his position as president of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB), a resignation that will take formal effect from this Thursday to serve solely as president of FIBA Europe.
Garbajosa agreed to the presidency of FIBA Europe on May 20 after winning the elections. Once his resignation is registered in the FEB, this month will call the meetings of the Delegate Commission and the Executive Commission with the aim of making official the call for their elections and the calendar of the electoral process.
“It is a moment of mixed emotions. Nice because I am starting a new stage in FIBA Europe, but also nostalgic because they have been linked to this house for 24 years in total, the last seven as president”, Garbajosa said in a letter through the channels FEB officials.
“These days I have reflected a lot on what I could have done better and what remains to be done, but I am certain that I have given my soul to make basketball grow in our country. I am satisfied with the results of the teams, the growth of the Leagues, the support of the sponsors and the world leadership of our basketball”, highlighted the former president of the FEB.
In addition, Garbajosa has underlined “the feeling of leaving Spanish basketball united, with an impeccable reputation and excellent relations with all the agents of the sports ecosystem”. “I am beginning a new era in FIBA Europe, but I will always carry the FEB in my heart. I wish the best for the house that I love so much and I am convinced that from the union and ambition it will continue to grow”, he added in this regard.
“Thanks to all the media and fans for the respect and affection always shown, both towards me personally and towards the FEB as an institution. See you soon”, Garbajosa’s note ended along with a stanza from the song ‘We have plenty of the motives’, by Joaquín Sabina.
