England reached the Euro2024 final after a hard-fought victory against the Netherlands and, after the game, Gareth Southgate was delighted with his players’ performance.
“We played very well. It was a complicated game and we had to keep changing our defensive position. We had to adapt all the time and the players made a lot of good decisions. The end is special to the squad and a reward for what they have to give to the cause”, said the British coach.
One of the keys to the win was the introduction of Ollie Watkins, who scored the decisive goal and Southgate explained what motivated his decision to bring him into the game.
“The most important thing is that the whole team is ready to go into the game. We felt, in terms of energy, that we were starting to lose a little bit of pressure, and Harry took a hit. Ollie can push that good and make plays from behind.. We thought it was a good time to try it.
Now, Spain is the next opponent on the way to the cup, on Sunday (8 pm).
