“I enjoyed the atmosphere of the Olympics and I look forward to going to Los Angeles to fight for gold.”

As reported by İdman.biz, this was stated by Azerbaijani taekwondo athlete Gashim Magomedov (58 kg), who won silver in Paris.

He noted that up until the final he had fought in one breath. “You saw how I performed, I simply seized the moment, I was inspired by the fights. Of course, I expected to win in the final against Tae-Jun Park, whom I had beaten several months earlier in the President’s Cup final. But the injury I received did not allow me to do this. So, it was supposed to be like that, everything is the will of the Almighty,” Magomedov noted.

He added that he dedicated the award to his family and wife, and also spoke about the injury he received: “There is a suspicion of a fracture of the tibia, but everything will be clear after the examination.”

Magomedov commented on the episode at the end of the final, when the Korean kicked him, although Gashim was already losing his balance: “This is sport. I understand that the Korean wanted to win at any cost, this is the final. But after the fight, he came up to him and apologized, said that he did not do it on purpose, but in the heat of the fight.”

Gashim admitted that he was enjoying the moment: “My father is my personal trainer. I started doing taekwondo when I was five. Of course, I dreamed of the Olympics, but back then it seemed like an unattainable dream. And now I’m here and I’ve won silver.”

He also thanked everyone for their support. “The Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gaibov and the Federation leadership were present here. Many thanks to them all. I want to thank the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev for the development of sports in the country. Many Olympic complexes and bases have appeared, there are all the conditions for full-fledged training,” Magomedov said.
