Since last Saturday, February 24, drivers in Colombia felt the impact of the annual adjustment in gasoline prices. The Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (Creg) published new rates that placed the average price of gasoline in the 13 main cities in the country at $15,416 per gallon.

However, only two cities managed to keep their prices below the $15,000 barrier. At that time, Pasto led the list with an average cost of $13,573 per gallon, closely followed by Cúcuta, with a price of $13,895.

Villavicencio was positioned as the city with the most expensive gallon, reaching $15,930, followed by Cali with $15,834 and Bogotá with $15,830.

The price adjustment, according to the Creg resolution, reflected an increase in the producer’s income, which was projected at $10,304.70 per gallon, exceeding the $10,200 in 2023 in most cities.

The factors that make up the price of gasoline included, among others, the national tax ($724.70), fossil VAT, the carbon tax ($186.37), the marking fee, the polyduct transportation fee, the maximum sales price to the wholesale distributor, the margin to the wholesale distributor, the VAT on the margin to the wholesale distributor, the surcharge, the maximum price at the wholesale supply plant, the margin of the retail distributor, the loss due to evaporation and, finally, the transportation from the wholesale supply plant to the service station.

This adjustment raised concerns among drivers and highlighted the importance of revising energy policies to maintain a balance between inflation and fuel accessibility.
