The spread of the omicron coronavirus strain may lead to the fact that subsequently the number of cases of COVID-19 infection in the world will decline, according to the founder and ex-head of Microsoft Bill Gates.

“As soon as an outbreak of omicron-strain infections occurs in a country, there will be a decrease in the number of infections during the year, and the coronavirus can be treated like seasonal flu,” wrote he’s on Twitter.

According to Gates, due to the omicron strain, many will develop immunity to the coronavirus, which will last at least a year.

At the same time, Gates said countries’ health systems will be challenged by the omicron. Most severe cases of COVID-19 infection will occur in those who have not been vaccinated, he warned.

“It is unlikely that a more contagious strain will emerge, but we have experienced many surprises during the pandemic. <...> Perhaps for some time we will have to be vaccinated against the coronavirus every year, ”he added.
