Not only among men but also among women, the defending champion has failed. Coco Gauff lost to her rising compatriot Emma Navarro (WTA 12) just as she did in Wimbledon in the round of 16. In a score of 3:6, 6:4, 3:6, she was far from her best form and served 19 double faults.

Since her loss in the semifinal at Roland Garros against Iga Swiatek, the 20-year-old has been struggling immensely. There was also disappointment for her at the Olympic Games. In 2023, Gauff defeated the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka in the final and celebrated her first Grand Slam title.
