Gaute Grøtta Grav (45), perhaps better known as the self-proclaimed king of relaxation, created a number of headlines during the autumn season of “71 degrees north celebrity”.
Many felt that Gaute made less pleasant comments to his team during the tough stages, and many claimed that he preferred to run his own race rather than help the team.
The 45-year-old has said little about his TV participation. However, he is now responding to the criticism.
– I don’t want to make such a selfish choice
– Used to being whipped
In yesterday’s episode of the Christmas calendar “Asbjørn’s Christmas calendar”, Gaute is confronted about his behavior in “71 degrees north” by Asbjørn Brekke.
– I assume you’re not as you were portrayed? Brekke asks.
– I certainly have parts of that inside me. When I go hiking with my brothers, I’m not the best. I am used to being whipped by others.
Gaute further says:
– Maybe I took too much of Möller’s cod liver oil and wanted to be the best for once. I don’t know. Inferiority complex? I don’t know. But I have to try to find out what happened there.

Was a conscious choice
Although Gaute has mostly been silent around the media storm, he has commented somewhat earlier.
When he guest starred in the podcast “How are you man?” by Erik Follestad, they touched on his participation in “71 degrees north”, and Erik asked Gaute how he was doing.
– It’s going well, there’s no stress, you know. But the last weeks or months have been such that gravity has been lifted when it comes to coverage of me. There was someone who told me that I have been mentioned more in Norwegian media last week than Donald Trump, and I think that’s quite an achievement. I understand that it’s not possible to fight against that, so I’ve actually just kept quiet and let the train go by, he said in the podcast.
Not responding to the media was thus a conscious choice, as he couldn’t have imagined that anything he could have said would have subdued or improved the situation.
KK has attempted to contact Gaute but, so far, without success.
