GAZ Group began to produce incomplete cars due to the lack of microchips

by time news

GAZ Group has not received some components that use microchips for almost two weeks, GAZ managing director Andrey Sofonov told Vedomosti on September 9. Because of this, incomplete cars roll off the assembly line for about a week, he said.

According to Sofonov, the company was looking for such a solution so as not to stop the conveyors, but after the receipt of the missing parts, quickly install them and give the cars to the market. “The car goes through the entire production chain and remains at the factory site without the missing part, and when the components arrive, we will return it to the technological process and complete the production,” Sofonov said. According to him, for this, technological flows were reconfigured within the production system of the GAZ group.

According to the Association of European Businesses, GAZ Group sold 5161 commercial vehicles in Russia in August (+ 34% versus August 2020). The number of vehicles sold roughly corresponds to the monthly production volume, a company representative explained. The problem of the shortage of components concerns individual models, said the source of Vedomosti, without specifying which models are in question.
