While Israel excludes any ceasefire without the prior release of its hostages, the heads of the Israeli Mossad and the American CIA were in negotiations with Qatari officials in Doha, with a view to a “possible humanitarian truce” in the territory of Gaza.

The heads of the Israeli and American intelligence services spoke with Qatari officials in Doha about a “possible humanitarian truce” to be observed in the war between Israel and Palestinian Hamas in Gaza, according to statements this Thursday from a senior official aware of the negotiations.

Speaking to AFP on condition of anonymity, this same official revealed that both the CIA Director, Bill Burns, and the Mossad Chief, David Barnea, are both in Doha for trilateral negotiations with the Qataris, to fine-tune the details of a possible humanitarian truce that would lead to the release of hostages and an increase in the arrival of aid destined for Gaza. “The talks have in fact progressed towards an agreement”, said the official.

A source close to Hamas in Gaza had told AFP on Wednesday that negotiations led by Qatar aimed at releasing twelve hostages, including six Americans, in exchange for a three-day humanitarian truce.
