Gazprom may stop gas supplies to Moldova in 48 hours due to the lack of payment under the current contract, the company’s official representative Sergei Kupriyanov told NTV.

“Bearing in mind the difficult, very difficult situation in the economic and financial situation of Moldova, guided by the desire to keep Moldova’s ability to pay off its debt obligations towards Gazprom, as well as the position of the Russian President, to whom the Moldovan side has repeatedly asked for assistance, Gazprom it was decided to sign the contract practically on the terms of the Moldovan side, but with an essential and important point: Moldova makes 100% of current payments for gas on time. The next deadline for current payments is November 22. In this regard, today Gazprom, in accordance with the contract, notified the Moldovan side that in 48 hours gas supplies to Moldova will be stopped, ”he said.

At the same time, Kupriyanov stressed that Gazprom “is extremely disappointed with Moldova’s failure to fulfill its contractual obligations.”

On October 29, Moldova and Gazprom extended the gas supply agreement for a period of five years; under the new agreement, the republic will import about 3 billion cubic meters of gas per year. At the same time, the price formula proposed by the Moldovan side was approved. The cost of Russian gas is calculated based on a pricing formula linked to the petroleum product basket and spot gas prices in Europe. In addition, Moldovan operators can purchase gas from other suppliers. According to the results of the talks, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Spinu said that the new price for Russian gas for the republic in November will be $ 450 per thousand cubic meters, and subsequently will change depending on market quotations. Last year, the country imported gas for an average of $ 148 per thousand cubic meters.

The old contract with Gazprom expired in September of this year and was extended for the period of negotiations until the end of October. Last year, the country paid an average of $ 148 per thousand cubic meters, in September this year – $ 550, and in October – $ 790.
