For 2023, “Gazprom” reports, according to international accounting and financial standards, a loss of 6.7 billion dollars. A year earlier, the Russian gas monopolist reported a profit of 13.4 billion dollars.

Gazprom’s revenues have decreased by 27% compared to 2022. The revenues of the gas business in the concern fell by 43%, the oil business by 4%, and the electricity business increased by 9%.

This is a result of the decline in gas trade in Europe, which until the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was the company’s main market. As reported by The Moscow Times, Gazprom exported only 69 billion cubic meters of gas last year – the lowest volume since 1985. At the same time, supplies to Europe fell to the level of the second half of the 1970s – 28 billion cubic meters

Gazprom recorded losses for the third time in its history – with a negative balance it ended 1988, when Russia declared bankruptcy, and 2020, when the pandemic lowered gas demand and prices, “Sega” reports.

In December 2023, the deputy head of Gazprom Famil Sadigov stated that the company expects “stable financial results”. He claimed that despite the fall in gas prices and export volumes, by 2023 Gazprom should receive $4.3 billion in profit from gas sales and $37 billion from the concern’s other activities.
