Those who follow the sale of electric vehicles in Israel are no longer surprised, everything that is available is simply hijacked. Take for example Geely Geometric, an unknown manufacturer in Israel, immediately in China, which manages to create the right mix for the Israeli market and becomes a desirable vehicle within a few months.

Here are some facts that on the face of it sound far-fetched: with only one model, it overtook Tesla in sales; Even if you want to order it, the order list is closed; If you are lucky and you are on the order list, eight months of waiting for the car is reasonable. Over 2,000 units have already been delivered to happy customers (some of whom are selling them online for tens of thousands of shekels extra!) and over 8,000 people are waiting to receive their vehicles, what a coup?!

So here are 10 points about Geely Geometric C.

1 . Whether the name “geometric” has any meaning is not clear to me, what is true, there are many geometric shapes here, you meet them in the switches, on the dashboard and in all kinds of other places in the passenger compartment, nice and original.

2. Two types of electric motors are offered to the customer, 350 and 460. The numbers show the mileage that can be reached with the battery for each of them – and the numbers are real. The test vehicle I received was a 350 C and after filling the battery to 100 percent, I was able to reach 320 kilometers with 10 percent left in the battery. (How to do this, I will detail later). I did this for two days and the result was the same.

3. The exterior design is up to you. Only indicates that the investment is considerable. Floating black roof, hidden opening handles like in Tesla/Land Rover, strong LED lighting in front and a signature LED strip in the back.

4. The people of Israel love armaments, and the list is very long. Surprisingly smooth, such as closing and locking the car without touching the key, a BOSE audio system, a wireless charging pad, the best 360 surround camera I’ve ever met, rear and front cameras that light up in all directions and are very easy on crowded streets, a full panoramic roof, and more. If I look for disadvantages, there is something that bothered me a little: wind noise above 100 km/h.

5. The passenger compartment: beautiful and original here, bright colors, a small and comfortable steering wheel, excellent human engineering, a large central screen (12.3 inches), although it is all in English, but arranged in a very convenient way to operate. In front of the driver there is a really small but practical screen and to my surprise it is very comfortable on a daily basis. The light fabric seats are extra charge. As for the passenger cabin, we note that it is a little narrow as a result of the design of the central console.

6. The level of safety equipment is 6 out of 8, there is almost everything here, and what is there – works perfectly.

7 The rear seat is flat, and the legroom is moderate. It is not spacious like a recreational vehicle, nor is it too crowded. The trunk is reasonable and can be increased for an additional fee.

8. Driving an electric vehicle requires adaptation, not in terms of driving, but in terms of maximizing the battery. Pressing the accelerator pedal in sport mode, for a few minutes, can be very fun, but will drain the battery pretty quickly. The recommended mode is ‘economy mode’, which will give you 350 km under completely reasonable conditions. There is also an ‘economy plus’ mode that requires somewhat ascetic conditions, such as a weaker air conditioner, turning off unnecessary interior lighting and a few other things. I did the test days most of the time with this situation, after all, not that bad, you can live with it and as a bonus get 10 more kilometers on the whole charge.

9. Let’s talk about regenerative braking. In electric and hybrid vehicles, pressing the brakes returns energy to the battery. Frequent trips within the city do not decrease the percentage of the battery, on the contrary: sometimes they increase the percentage of travel… In electric vehicles there is an option to increase the regenerative braking. I went as hard as possible, this means that every time I lift my foot from the accelerator pedal – the vehicle brakes itself. Not everyone likes it, but for me it was very comfortable, the meaning is sometimes surprising, descending from Miron towards the center of the country, for 20 minutes the battery percentage was fully preserved and even the trip computer gave us another two kilometers to the destination.

10. During the test, the vehicle was fueled/charged at public stations and this took several hours, which is certain that in such a vehicle you will need a charging station near the house, which will solve the range problem for you in most cases and there is also the option of fast DC charging from 20 percent to 80 percent in 40 minutes or so.

Summary line: It was fun, two days of quiet and very economical driving, which pretty much leaves the range anxiety behind. It is a bit disappointing after such a test to write here that at the moment it is not possible to purchase the vehicle even at full price. It can be hoped that in the future the market situation will return to itself with more reasonable waiting times.
