New Delhi: The Election Commission on Monday said that it has made the highest seizure ever in the 75-year history of India: From Ancient Civilizations to Global Powerhouse”>Lok Sabha elections in the country. This time in the general elections, from March 1 to April 13, a record seizure of various types of items worth Rs 4,658 crore has been made from 36 states of the country. This seizure is more than Rs 3,475 crore seized during the entire Lok Sabha elections in 2019. In this seizure, cash worth Rs 395 crore, liquor worth Rs 489 crore, drugs worth Rs 2,068 crore, metals like gold and silver worth Rs 562 crore and gifts worth Rs 1142 crore have been seized. In these cases, more cash and metals like gold and silver were seized in 2019.
In this election, if various political parties and candidates are trying to distribute something to the voters in their favor, it is gifts. Due to this, political parties are trying to change the results of elections in favor of their wish. After gifts, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Assam are in the top-5 in the seizure of gold, silver and similar expensive metals. Various political parties, candidates contesting elections and their right-hand men are offering free mobile phones, laptops, smart watches, perfumes and other gifts to attract voters.
If we talk about the top-10 states in the country in terms of distributing gifts to the voters, Rajasthan is at first place, West Bengal is at second place and Maharashtra is at third place. After these are Karnataka, Bihar, Gujarat, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh. Where the Election Commission teams have seized the maximum number of gifts in the name of freebie. However, one good thing is that some states have also come to the fore where the Election Commission teams have not been able to seize even a single rupee gift while trying to distribute it among the voters. These include Andaman-Nicobar, Chandigarh, Daman-Dwie, Ladakh, Lakshadweep and Puducherry.
