After the call for the 2023 General Elections, several candidates have approached the office of the Citizens’ Registry of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) to register to the electoral process that will take place on June 25.
Among the applicants is Javier Gramajo, who seeks to continue in the mayor’s office of Villa Nueva. Gramajo came to the commune for the Fuerza party, group that disappeared after not achieving a seat or 5 percent in the intention to vote, so now it seeks to do so with the official party.
The mayor chief arrived at the Citizens Registry together with the president of Congress, Shirley Rivera, who is seeking re-election as a deputy for the department of Guatemala.
Gramajo has gained notoriety since he replaced Edwin Escobar Hill in office, Well, a few months after assuming he became the highest paid mayor in the country. The sessions of the municipal council of Q4 thousand, has allowed him to have income that exceeds Q90 thousand per month.

The Roca
The Cabal party, which promotes Edmond Mulet’s presidential candidacy, registered its candidate for municipal mayor. This is Yang Roca, who will try for the second time to win the commune.
In 2019 he participated with the UNE party where he obtained fourth place.
Domingo Sical
It will be the third time that he will seek to reach the municipal mayor’s office. He did it in 2015 and in 2019 with the TODOS party. He will now run for the Partido Popular Guatemalteco, a group with which Neto Bran seeks to secure his re-election as mayor of Mixco.
Sical is a lawyer and notary. He was acting mayor during the period 2008-2012 when Salvador Gándara resigned to occupy the position of Minister of the Interior.
Naaman Herrera Acajabón
The candidate for the National Unity of Hope (UNE) is Naaman Herrera Acajabón, who is an engineer by profession. His registration was already endorsed by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal. It is not the first time that he has run for an elected office. In the 2019 electoral process, he participated as a candidate for deputy for the Libre party, led by Anibal García.
However, the grouping disappeared from the political map by not achieving a seat or 5 percent in the intention to vote.
Elmer Hernandez
The National Welfare Party (BIEN) postulates Elmer Hernandez and Hernandezwho during the current administration held the position of deputy director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (Inguat).
Byron Alfredo González Tool
He is the candidate for the Movement for the Liberation of the Peoples (MLP) party. He was provisional secretary general of the group in 2017 when it sought to establish itself as a political party.
In 2019, he unsuccessfully sought a seat in the Congress of the Republic.
armando mendoza
The Republican party proclaimed Armando Mendoza, Ugly King of the Law School. He is known for being a defense attorney for former prosecutor Samari Gómez linked to the José Rubén Zamora case.
Manuel Antonio Lopez Leiva
López is the mayoral candidate for the Comunidad Elefante party led by Hugo Peña, the group’s presidential candidate.
Jaime Ramiro Canastuj de León
Canastuj is the bet of the Winaq party for the mayor of Villa Nueva. According to his LinkedIn profile, he is a university professor at the Mariano Gálvez University.
Mynor Morales Zurita
Morales is the candidate of the Valor party. He is the son of the current mayor of San Miguel Petapa, Mynor Morales, who is seeking re-election with that group.
Luis Emilio Melgar Pineda
Melgar is the candidate for the commune for the All party. He is an agronomist by profession. His registration has already been endorsed by the TSE’s Registry of Citizens.
Villa Nueva’s problems
The residents of the municipality face continuous traffic chaos that forces them to leave their homes at dawn if they want to arrive on time to their place of work and drop their children off at school. The insecurity index in some areas continues to rise. The municipality is the second most violent after Guatemala, according to data from the authorities.
Added to this are the collapses that have the residents in suspensesince it is assured that the rumblings continue at various points, for which they fear a new undermining.
The first sinking was recorded on June 14, 2022 at kilometer 15.5 of the route to the Pacific. For several weeks, the villanovanos had to suffer with more traffic congestion than usual due to the repair work.
Almost three months later a new emergency was registered. This time it happened at the main entrance to the municipality. The collapse in front of Plaza Villa Nueva not only complicated the passage, It also claimed the lives of two women, who fell into the void in the vehicle in which they were driving.
Although the sinking was recorded on September 24, 2022, it was not until February 20, 2023 that the route was enabled.
