More than 40 international leaders sign a manifesto in support of Sánchez against “the unprecedented wave of conservatism”

Several international leaders have signed a manifesto of support for the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, in the face of “the unprecedented wave of conservatism” that the world is suffering and Europe in particular, according to warnings. To which they add the risk due to “the profoundly reactionary forces that feed the tension and the delegitimization of the institutions.” Among the signatories are the chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, the president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and the president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, as well as the prime ministers of Portugal, Antonio Costa; Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, and Malta, Robert Abela.

The text calls for support for the PSOE and Sánchez in the face of these forces that, they say, deny climate change and science and are also hostile to movements that fight for equality such as feminism. “Pedro Sánchez embodies the ability and commitment to govern with courage to turn this time of great transformations into opportunities for the future. Not only thinking about the needs of today’s society, but also laying the economic, educational, social and environmental foundations for the well-being of future generations, “says the text.

They express their concern about the “real risk of setback” that conservative policies represent for workers, for equality between women and men, the rights of LGTBI people, children, the ecological transition, education, universal and quality public health, the sustainability of the pension system or decent employment.

The document is also signed by the Deputy Prime Ministers of Luxembourg, Paulette Lenert, and Slovenia, Tanja Fajon, as well as the Secretary of State for Climate Change of Argentina, Cecilia Nicolini. And the former prime ministers of Belgium, Elio Di Rupo; Italy, Enrico Letta; Colombia, Ennestyo Samper; Greece, George Papandreou, United Kingdom, Gordon Brown; Sweden, Magdalena Andersson and Stefan Löfven, who is also the president of the European Socialist Party, and the former president of Chile Michelle Bachelet. The president of the European Commission between 1985 and 1995, Jacques Delors, and the mayoress of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, also join the manifesto of support for Pedro Sánchez. As well as the senator of Chile and vice president of the Socialist International, Isabel Allende, and the Nicaraguan writer, Cervantes Award 2018, Sergio Ramírez.
