The General Electricity Company announced that it is closely monitoring the situation in the city of Sabha and its suburbs after the heavy rains that hit the city last night, which caused damage to the electrical grid.
The company’s statement said that work is underway to urgently repair the damage, noting that technical teams were able to restore electricity to most of the affected areas in record time.
The company explained that some areas and homes were disconnected as a precaution to prevent electric shocks due to water leakage into home networks.
The company called on citizens to call and report any electrical faults in their homes, warning against dealing with faults individually, due to their seriousness.
In the same context, the spokesman for the Meteorological Center, Mohieddin Ali, confirmed earlier to Al-Ahrar that the amount of rain that fell on Sabha, estimated at 63 millimeters, had not been recorded since 2007.
Mohi El-Din expected that rain would continue to fall in the southwest, especially Ghat and its surroundings, warning of the flow of some valleys shared between Libya and Algeria.
For his part, the mayor of Ghat, Ibrahim Al-Khalil, reassured the residents of the area that the situation is good so far, noting that the necessary precautions are being taken in anticipation of any emergency due to the expected rains.
The spokeswoman for the Sabha Medical Center, Halima Al-Mahri, confirmed that there were two deaths and about 50 injuries, most of them minor, as a result of the heavy rains that hit the city last night.
