Genesis has expanded its artistic activities into Europe by joining hands with Tate Modern, a contemporary art museum in London, England.
Genesis announced on the 8th that it has decided to sponsor the exhibition ’The Genesis Exhibition: Do-ho Seo: Walk the House’ scheduled to be held in May next year with ‘Tate Modern’ in the UK.
In the case of Genesis, we are expanding art partnerships with world-class art institutions and creators to provide consumers with a more in-depth artistic experience. As part of this, a new partnership has been signed with Tate Modern, which has had a long-term collaborative relationship with Hyundai Motor Company.
The exhibition to be held next year is a large-scale solo exhibition by artist Do-ho Seo, known as the ‘house builder’. Through sculpture, video, and drawing, he explores the relationship between architecture, space, body, and memory, and asks questions about the concepts of residence and movement. It is said to be an exhibition planned in a survey format to comprehensively view and explore the artist’s artistic world. Genesis explained that it is in line with the brand art partnership direction of introducing the creator’s thoughts on various contemporary topics in more depth to the audience.
In particular, this exhibition will cover a wide range of works by artist Do-ho Suh, who has been active in Seoul, New York, and London for the past 30 years, and will reveal ‘site-specific’ new works for the first time. Site-specific work refers to intentionally planning and arranging a work of art so that its components harmonize with a specific location.
Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Eui-sun is also said to actively support the Genesis brand’s activities in the arts field. Chairman Eui-sun Chung said, “Through our partnership with the Tate Museum of Art, which has shared our vision for a long time, we have been able to showcase Genesis’ art activities in Europe.” He added, “This exhibition, which is drawing much anticipation from visitors around the world, will expand the boundaries between space and time.” “I look forward to experiencing the endless journey of artist Do-ho Seo and reaffirming his timeless values,” he said.
Maria Balshaw, Director of Tate Modern, said, “The long-standing partnership with Hyundai Motors has played an important role in helping Tate Modern present diverse and innovative contemporary art to the public, and we expect that cooperation will be further strengthened through this partnership with Genesis.” “I think the deep insight into modern society presented by author Do-ho Seo is the perfect starting point for a new partnership,” he said.
The artist Do-ho Suh’s exhibition, sponsored by Genesis, is scheduled to be held at the Tate Modern in London from May 1 to 10 and 19 next year.
Meanwhile, Genesis signed a five-year partnership agreement with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, USA last July. We are carrying out various global art projects, starting with our sponsorship of ‘The Genesis Facade Commission’, which displays installation works by world-renowned artists on the front façade of the museum.
A Genesis official said, “We plan to continue Genesis’ unique cultural and arts sponsorship activities and contribute to promoting the vision of various creators.”
