In a statement on behalf of the Kingdom, during the 2nd Global Refugee Forum, the Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Morocco in Geneva, Omar Zniber, indicated that this trend emanates from the Royal vision which has always made humanitarian action and international solidarity a central pillar of Morocco’s domestic and foreign policies.

Morocco, he said, continues to implement a dedicated multi-stakeholder and partnership approach, which has made it possible to multiply achievements and develop good practices, adding that it is a “humanist” approach, based on an asylum and immigration strategy carried out with determination since 2014.

The Ambassador reviewed a number of achievements made through the establishment of an educational system for the integration of children from immigrant, asylum-seeking and refugee families, the integration of migrants and refugees in all national statistical surveys and the encouragement of employers to recruit migrants and refugees, through a simplified procedure promoting their integration into Moroccan society.

Mr. Zniber reiterated Morocco’s commitment to continue its contribution to the global effort to protect and assist refugees, through a series of priority actions including an additional financial contribution to the operations of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) dedicated to refugee status determination, registration and documentation.

These actions, he added, also concern the implementation of the “Humanized Border Management” procedures framework and the principle of non-refoulement, the full integration of refugees into national public health programs, the integration of children into the national education system and the simplification of procedures for integrating refugees into the labor market.

Morocco will continue to advocate for a better international response to prevent, protect and provide assistance to people forcibly displaced by the effects of climate change, continued Mr. Zniber, expressing the Kingdom’s desire to strengthen its fruitful partnership with the UNHCR.

The 2nd Global Refugee Forum, which is attended by a Moroccan delegation representing several relevant sectors, aims to support the practical implementation of the objectives set out in the Global Compact on Refugees.

These include reducing pressure on host countries, strengthening the independence of refugees, broadening the scope of solutions offered by third countries and improving living conditions in countries of origin, in order to facilitate safe and dignified return.
