Mayor Park Jong-woo of Geoje is sweating bullets over the order for Hanwha Ocean’s Polish submarine. On the 3rd, Mayor Park Jong-woo of Geoje attended the International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO 24) in Poland and expressed his full support for Hanwha Ocean, which is competing for orders with EU countries.

The three defense companies of Hanwha Group (Hanwha Ocean, Hanwha Aerospace, and Hanwha Systems) are competing for orders for Polish submarines at the International Defense Business Exhibition held in Kielce, Poland from September 3 to 4. Hanwha Ocean is the only domestic company exhibiting a submarine.

The Orca project being promoted in Poland is a project to introduce 2-3 submarines as part of a naval modernization project, and the project scale is over 3 trillion won.

In order to support Hanwha Ocean, which is competing with European countries such as Germany, France, and Sweden in the European submarine market, which is known for its high barriers to entry, Mayor Park Jong-woo of Geoje City met with Polish defense industry officials together with Governor Park Wan-soo of Gyeongsangnam-do Province.

Mayor Park Jong-woo of Geoje Island expressed his support for Hanwha Ocean, stating, “Hanwha Ocean is the optimal company for the Orca project as it possesses the capability to build submarines with excellent performance and cost efficiency based on many years of experience and technological prowess.” He also stated, “Geoje City will fully support Hanwha Ocean so that it can further strengthen defense cooperation between Poland and South Korea through the Orca project.”

Meanwhile, Geoje City, which is promoting the ‘ASEAN-Korea National Garden’ project to promote ASEAN cultural exchange and garden culture industry, is accelerating preparations for the project by training professional garden management personnel and holding garden industry expos.

Mayor Park, who visited Warsaw’s representative Łazienki Park on the 1st, said, “A park is not just a simple green space, but a collection of history, culture, and art,” and added, “We will make the Korea-ASEAN National Garden in Geoje a park that many people visit by incorporating history and culture.”

In addition, Mayor Park Jong-woo of Geoje is scheduled to return home on the 4th after a hectic 7-night and 9-day schedule that includes visiting the historic center of Prague, Czech Republic, to learn about advanced cases of cultural heritage protection, and visiting the KAI Poland base office (Minsk Air Force Base) to examine trends in defense industry development.
