Georgia hopes to cooperate with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on a cable project under the Black Sea, which provides for the supply of green energy from Azerbaijan to Europe.

As Day.Az reports on Thursday with reference to Trend, this was stated by the Chairman of the Board of Governors and Governor from Georgia at the ADB, Georgian Finance Minister Lasha Khutsishvili, speaking at a business session of the Board of Governors of the Asian Development Bank within the framework of the annual meeting of the ADB in Tbilisi.

In his speech, he spoke about the role of the Asian Development Bank in the process of assisting the countries of the region and noted that today, given global difficulties, ADB support is especially important in implementing reforms in the countries of the region.

Lasha Khutsishvili mentioned that the main principles of both the Asian Development Bank and other development partners should be flexibility and decisive action in response to various challenges.

According to him, with the rapid economic recovery in the public and private sectors, Georgia has proven its commitment to sustainable development policies.

Khutsishvili emphasized that despite problems on a global scale, the country experienced double-digit economic growth for two years.

He also mentioned that Georgia’s strong economic and financial profile provides a solid basis for long-term strategic planning.

“Georgia continues its successful cooperation with the Asian Development Bank, whose portfolio is about 4.5 billion US dollars. We hope that future cooperation with ADB will be carried out in priority areas for Georgia, such as energy security and independence, environmentally friendly and renewable production, as well as connectivity, power transmission, including the Black Sea submarine cable project, highways and digital infrastructure Today we all need strong regional synergy and the support of development-oriented partners. Note that the theme of the 57th annual meeting, which will be held from May 2 to 5, is “Bridge to the Future.”

The first meeting of the Board of Governors will take place on May 4. The opening will mark the official start of the annual meeting. This is an event attended by honored guests from the host country. ADB President Masatsugu Asakawa and Georgian Finance Minister and Chairman of the ADB Board of Governors Lasha Khutsishvili will make statements.

The annual meeting provides ADB Governors with an opportunity to consider development issues and challenges facing the Asia-Pacific region. The meeting is regularly attended by several thousand participants, including finance ministers, central bank governors, senior government officials, representatives of the private sector, international and civil society organizations, youth, academia and the media.
