Georgia, thousands take to the streets against the foreign agents law: tear gas on the crowd – Video

by time news

Thousands of people gathered overnight in front of the Parliament in Tiblisi, the capital of Georgia, to protest against the initial support by deputies for the Russian-style bill supported by the ruling Georgian Dream party. The bill provides for the introduction of a register of organizations regarded as ‘agent of foreign influence’. Protesters chanted the Georgian national anthem and waved the European Union and Georgian flags, while security officials fired tear gas, water cannons and pepper spray to disperse the crowds as seen in some videos released by Mash. According to critics, the new law limits freedom of the press and suppresses civil society.
