A long-time member of the Socialist Party, Gérard Collomb had supported Emmanuel Macron’s candidacy for the 2017 presidential election and joined La République en Marche. From 2017 to 2018, he had been Minister of State, Minister of the Interior, in the government of Edouard Philippe. Defeated in the last municipal elections of 2020, Gérard Collomb was mayor of Lyon for just under twenty years.
