French police questioned Gérard Depardieu at the station on Monday. It’s about allegations of abuse by two set employees, which the 75-year-old denies. In the evening it was announced that a trial against him would begin in October.
French film star Gérard Depardieu has to stand trial over allegations of sexual violence. As the Paris public prosecutor announced on Monday, the trial against the 75-year-old is scheduled to begin in October.
Depardieu had previously been questioned in police custody about allegations from two women who accused him of assaults during filming in 2021. The actor has denied the allegations against him, his lawyer said. Depardieu was released from police custody on Monday evening.
Specifically, it concerns allegations from two women who reported the actor at the beginning of the year for sexual harassment during the filming of two films in 2014 and 2021.
The 75-year-old, who is already being investigated for several similar crimes, including rape, is said to have harassed the production staff on set. Specifically, it is about the film “Les Volets Verts”, which was released in 2022, and the short film “Le Magician et les Siamois”, which was released in 2015.
Depardieu has already been reported several times for sexual violence. Since 2020, the judiciary has been investigating the rape case of actress Charlotte Arnould against the movie star. More than a dozen other women have accused him of assault and harassment.
“We had to listen to his nonsense from morning to evening”
French media recently reported on the allegations in detail. Accordingly, a set designer accuses the actor of sexually harassing her while filming the film “Les volets verts” by director Jean Becker. Depardieu made numerous offensive comments, she told Medipart magazine. He also “brutally grabbed” her and groped her “at the waist, stomach and up to her breasts”. The actor’s bodyguards finally stopped Depardieu.

“We had to listen to his nonsense from morning to night,” actress Anouk Grimberg, who starred in the film, recently told the AFP news agency. “When producers hire Depardieu, they know he is an aggressor,” she added.
The other person who made the report would like to remain anonymous. She was 24 years old when, according to her, Depardieu harassed her with “obscene remarks” and groped her while filming “Le Magician et les Siamois.”

Gérard Depardieu rejects all of the allegations. In one in the newspaper “Le Figaro” In the letter published in the fall, he described himself as a victim of a “media lynching” and wrote, “I have never abused a woman.” Depardieu continued: “I am neither a rapist nor a predator. I’m just a man…”
Several dozen artists – including the actress Charlotte Rampling and the musician and former French first lady Carla Bruni – also complained that the presumption of innocence with Depardieu, “probably the greatest of all actors”, is ignored.
Backing from President Emmanuel Macron
French President Emmanuel Macron also publicly supported the actor several times recently, and he also referred to the presumption of innocence. Depardieu is one of France’s most famous film stars. He worked with the country’s most important directors and actresses and starred in more than 200 films.

The Paris public prosecutor’s office only said on Monday that they could not share or confirm anything at the moment. First, possible allegations would have to be assessed. Those involved in the process are also the first to be informed.
Police custody in France is limited in time. Suspects can then be brought before the public prosecutor’s office or an investigating judge. Preliminary investigations can then become preliminary investigations.
